I made it to measure how long it would take and to go through a clear pipeline

Deer Girl

About the Project

After Fish Girl, where I experimented a lot with techniques, I wanted a more even and straightforward piece of work, and to see how long a model would take from start to finish.

The idea is a deer girl. I like deer a lot; they are cute animals. I started from a Pinterest image, but as I worked I moved a bit away from the reference: some details came out differently from the source picture.

On this model I tried a different hair technique. The main goal is a character that can be animated. Next I want to try motion capture (mocap). For now mocap is only in the plans.

The main work is done now. What is left is to finish the render and fix the weak spots. There are no finished frames for the site yet.

Software

Main software: Blender (modeled from scratch) Textures: Substance Painter Rig and animation: Blender (a basic rig is in place; animation and mocap are still to come)

Pipeline

The model was built from scratch:

  • blocking
  • sculpting
  • retopology
  • clothing
  • UV
  • textures (Substance Painter)
  • hair (a different technique from Fish Girl)
  • basic rig
  • animation: planned
  • mocap: planned
  • render: in progress

Plans

  • final render (several angles for Work)
  • fix the weak spots on the model
  • try motion capture (mocap)
